All around the world kids today
don’t realize the sacrifices their parents make for their kids.
In the two poems “ My papas Waltz”
& “ Those winter Sundays” they both compare and contrast on different themes.
Both poems have their own look on these issues.
Both
poems explore the themes of family and how the parents really care about their
children. For example in the text of “those winter Sundays” it says “ Sundays
too my father got up early and put his clothes on in the blue black cold. With
cracked hands that ached from labor in the weekday weather made banked fires
blaze. No one ever thanked him.” This shows how the father sacrifices himself
for his family by waking up before sun rise so the family could have warmth in
the house when they wake up. The reason this is sad is because the family
doesn’t realize how much the father cares about them. I can prove that because
in the text it says “ no one ever thanked him” but the father continues to help
his family as much as he can even though they don’t thank him. In the poem “ My
papas waltz” there is also a bit of love between the son and the father, it the
text it states “ we romped until the pans slid from the kitchen shelf.” This
shows how playful he is with his dad. In conclusion the parents are nice to
their kids.
Although
both poems can be similar they can also be different. In the poem “ My papas
Waltz” it shows that the dad abuses his child in the other poem the dad really
cares about his family, I can prove this because in the text it says “ Every
step you missed my right ear would scrape a buckle” this shows that his father
is hitting him with a belt on the ear. In “ those winter Sundays” the dad is
very caring towards his family. Another thing that makes “ My papas waltz”
different from “ Those winter Sundays is that in “My papas waltz” the dad is
drunk so he is putting the kid in danger if he knows that he abuses his son if
he got drunk and he got mad at his child then maybe he could really hurt him.
In the text it says “ the whiskey on your breath could make a small boy dizzy…
such romping wasn’t easy” this is what tells us that he is drunk and he isn’t
very stable. All in all the two poems are very different. Because of the
different type of care each father gives to their family
In
conclusion both poems have very similar and very different ways of showing love
to their children and how they treat each other, both sides of each dad are
very different and similar. If you were the father would you chose to help the
family or not help the family? This is what both poems are really about.
